Why We Built This
If you have ever searched for EMR reviews as a psychiatrist, you have probably noticed that most review sites evaluate platforms on criteria that have little relevance to your daily work. They rank EMRs on surgical scheduling efficiency, imaging integration, and multi-specialty referral workflows while barely mentioning EPCS prescribing, therapy note flexibility, or rating scale integration. The result is that the EMRs rated most highly on general review sites are often the worst fit for psychiatric practice, and the platforms that serve psychiatrists well receive little attention because their strengths do not map to the evaluation criteria being used.
PsychiatryEMRs.com was created to fill that gap. We evaluate every EMR through the specific lens of psychiatric practice, using eight criteria that reflect what actually matters when you are trying to prescribe a Schedule II stimulant between patients, document a complex therapy session before your next appointment, or manage the endless stream of prior authorization requests that define modern psychiatric practice.
Our Evaluation Methodology
Each EMR we review is evaluated across eight psychiatry-specific dimensions: EPCS Workflow, Note Flexibility, Telepsych Integration, Rating Scales, Med Management, Patient Portal, Billing, and Overall Psychiatric Practice Fit. These criteria were selected based on the daily realities of psychiatric practice, with the heaviest weighting given to EPCS workflow and note flexibility because these features affect virtually every clinical encounter.
We conduct hands-on evaluation of each platform, testing actual clinical scenarios that psychiatrists encounter daily. This includes prescribing a Schedule II controlled substance, documenting a 45-minute therapy session, conducting a telepsychiatry visit, administering and reviewing a PHQ-9, and submitting a claim for a split billing encounter. We also evaluate the administrative workflows that consume non-clinical time, including prior authorization management, patient message handling, and refill processing.
Our Commitment
We are committed to providing honest, thorough reviews that help psychiatrists make informed technology decisions. Our reviews are written in the voice of a peer who understands the unique pressures and workflows of psychiatric practice. We disclose affiliate relationships transparently, and our review scores are never influenced by commercial considerations. When we recommend a platform, it is because our evaluation methodology supports that recommendation based on the criteria that matter for psychiatric practice.
